If you had to choose between a major family commitment and a pipe show – what would you do?
Find a way to make it happen and go to the pipe show without missing the other commitment.
That’s what I did this year & I got to spend 24 hours, 1 day, in Vegas.
So thankful I went. Even in that short period of time I was able to have a blast.
Seeing the old friends, making new ones, is always the most important part of pipe shows.
Without wasting too much time on jibber jabber, note that you will see some pipe makers pipes more than others. Why? Because the night before the show opened, I had ‘free time’. No need to be a TobaccoDays journalist for all of you & could enjoy myself. I got access to 3 pipe cases that night. Asteriou’s, Herbaugh’s and Liskey’s. For them, you see most of their pipes, in all their profiled glory.
The morning of the show, I literally had 120 minutes to get it done before I had to go to the airport. Documenting pipes at over 100 tables in under 2 hours. Not easy. The level of running around I was doing was unpleasant (because I wanted to spend time with everyone) but what can you do. The job had to get done.
Here you go Boys & Girls.
The 2015 West Coast Pipe Show in Pictures.
Hope you enjoy.
I have never seen a pipe makers case that was filled with so many amazing pipes.
Usually we open a case and maybe 1/4 of the pipes we see make us drool uncontrollably.
With this case, I think I wanted to buy 75% of what I saw.
Can’t get enough of that green stain.
That 2nd to last one above. The blasted Rhodesian variation. Thats Jared’s shop pipe.
Rolando’s pipes may or may not grab your fancy. Out of all the tables though, note the level of dynamic variety he exhibited.
Negoita has within his own design language, expanded his ‘pipe vocabulary’ so to speak to such a great extent, that you are able to look at an immense variety of shape expression….all in the same Negoita language. Whether you like his pipes or not, you should try to appreciate this element in this artisan.
If you like Negoita, all the better.
Klaus Zenz. ZENZ.
Sorry Klaus, designer missed this one but I will fix it asap.
Josh Feldman. All of you readers, ask yourself, why would someone enjoy smoking such a pipe?
Makis Minetos. Gonna fix it bud.
